How to Become a Member of Northampton Boat Club

We are a small family orientated club. We have up to 150 members and we currently have a few vacancies.

Full membership entitles you to use the club and all its facilities plus moor a craft (subject to payment of the appropriate mooring fee and size restriction of 40'). All members are expected to help in the maintenance and upkeep of the club

To apply to be a member you need to:

  • Be a boat owner
  • Complete a membership form
  • Be proposed and seconded by 2 members of the club or supply two references, one of whom should be from your present employer.
If you are interested in our club we recommend that you first come for an informal visit. This can be arranged by contacting the Commodore or Vice Commodore, (their contact details are listed in the Committee Section). At this visit they will give you an application form, details of the process and schedule of current fees. Once an application has been received by the Secretary the name and address of the applicant has to be posted to the club notice board for two weeks prior to a committee meeting, (held on the second Tuesday of the month).

Applicants are invited to the next committee meeting to give the applicant the opportunity to get to know a few names and faces as a start to making new friends. Full details on this process are in the club rules which are available on request from the Club Secretary.

Successful applicants become probationary members for one year on the payment of a years full subscription. The reason for probationary membership is twofold. Firstly to ensure that you will enjoy the club and what it has to offer and secondly that you are prepared to contribute your time to ensuring our club remains well maintained and fun for everyone in the club. A probationer is not offered a permanent mooring but once accepted to the club as a full member a permanent mooring would be allocated by the Harbour Master as soon as a suitable one becomes available.

At the end of the year a successful probationer is invited to join the club at which point a one-off joining fee is made.

Subscriptions and mooring fees are paid in January when all annual fees fall due. Full details of the current fees are available from the Club Secretary.
